Perfectionism is a belief system that feeds the primary thought that if I look, live and behave perfectly, I can minimise the pain of guilt, judgement and shame. We want to be perceived as perfect and to earn approval and acceptance. But there is no such thing as perfect, just as we cannot prove what others think of us.
In this lecture you will learn about perfectionism and its dimensions. You will get to know what causes perfectionism and reflect on the negative consequences of striving for perfection. Together we will begin to understand the difference between perfectionism and healthy striving and explore strategies and tools to overcome your perfectionist tendencies.
