Elucidating the role of Cdh13 in the etiopathology of psychiatric disorders
Abstract: Cadherin-13 (Cdh13) is an atypical member of the cadherin superfamily which are mainly cell adhesion molecules. The gene locus of Cadherin-13 has been repeatedly found in genome wide studies regarding attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder and some of its comorbid disorders. A genetically modified mouse strain for the constitutive and conditional knockout of Cdh13 has been generated by collaborating laboratory. The characterization and examination of these mice will be a major part of my work. One of my primary aims is the identification of cells which contain or interact with Cdh13. Furthermore, studies in the mouse as a model organism will be complemented by cell culture experiments in human and murine neuronal cells. The conjunction of behavioral tests and molecular biologically acquired data will hopefully provide us with more information about Cdh13 and it’s relation to disorders of emotional dysregulation.
