Information for foreign Students
Applicants from abroad, as well as those who did not complete their secondary education within the German school system, must take the following into account. Please read carefully if this applies to you. Consider that these take time and should therefore be completed well in advance of the application deadline.
(1) Recognition of secondary education through preliminary examination documentation: Applicants who have NOT completed their secondary education in the German school system, in Germany or at a school with German Abitur examination regulations must have their school degrees recognized as equal to German school degrees. Use uni-assist exclusively for this. Processing can be applied for throughout the year and can take up to 8 weeks. The preliminary examination documentation must be submitted upon application before the application deadline! Further information on the procedure can be found on the website of the Registrar's Office.
A brief overview, if your school diploma meets the qualification criteria for applying, is offered by the following website:

Ultimately, the University of Würzburg, or uni-assist, reserves the right to decide which degree will be recognized as a qualification.
(2) Language certificate for English language skills (B2): Since the language of instruction is exclusively English, applicants must demonstrate English proficiency at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Only a language certificate from a recognised American or British language school will be accepted. If you are unsure whether your certificate is suitable, please contact Jun. Prof. Feriel Bouhafa
(3) Student Visa: Applicants who are not citizens of an EU country must apply for a student visa at the appropriate German diplomatic mission abroad. The application for a visa can only be submitted after admission to the program. Further information is available on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.
(4) At the beginning of the program, no proof of German language proficiency is required: However, in the event of admission, students must achieve German language level A2 by the end of the program. The University of Würzburg offers language courses that students can take for this purpose.
(5) Financial support for studies: The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers various scholarships to students from abroad who wish to study in Germany. Different application deadlines apply. Further information can be found on the DAAD website.
